Faith, the Measure of God’s Grace!

Faith, the Measure of God’s Grace – My Daily Bread!

Our call to exercise faith in the Lord is taken from Matthew 9: 29, NIV,  where   Jesus said:

“According to your faith will it be done to you”.

This simple statement is quite significant for us since it implies that we receive our blessings in direct proportion to how much faith we exercise in the Living God!

Jesus spoke about the importance of faith and often noted his anguish over the lack of it by his disciples!   He took an exception to their responses when faced with situations that called for faith and trust in Him.  Once when Jesus’ disciples woke him fearing they would perish in a storm; He replied, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:40, NIV) And then there is the famous case of Peter, who became the “Rock” of the new Christian Church who when he stepped out on the water to meet Jesus, got scared and begins to sink.  Jesus said “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14: 22-31, NIV)  Two things result from little or no faith: FEAR and DOUBT.

Yet in contrast, the bible records several cases where Jesus marveled at the faith of some of the people who sought healing from him. Today we are going to focus on two of those instances that involved women.  To the bleeding women who was healed when she touched his garment, Jesus told her “Your faith has healed you”  (Luke 8:48, NIV); and to the women who Jesus acknowledged “that her sins were many’ who anointed his feet with her tears and fragrant oil  He said “Your faith has saved you.” (Luke 7:50, NIV)  Their faith expressed itself in action that drew them toward Jesus.  I am sure they were afraid, but they overcame it because of what they believed about Christ – namely that He had the power to change their lives!

So having faith or the lack of it is no small thing with God.  The disciples were in the presence of the Son of God everyday and still struggled with what to believe about him even though they had already witnessed Jesus perform many miracles; they doubted in their hearts what He could do for them.   Yet what the two women believed about Jesus changed their outlook about how He could impact their lives. They believed that Jesus was the source of what they were seeking and it emboldened them to act; to reach for Jesus.  They believed in Christ and received incredible blessings!

Faith is the power to believe and trust in God no matter what!  It is about being totally dependent on Him for everything.  How is your faith?  Do you believe that God can Change your life for Him?  Is God the strength of your heart?  Is He the source of your hope for today?  Do you feel like you cannot see the blessings of God in your life? Are you anxious for anything, fearful and doubting?  Examine the strength of your faith!

Like these women we must believe in our heart that God is our power and the resource through which we will be richly blessed! They understood the scripture that tells us  “And my God will meet all of your needs, according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus”  (Philippians 4:19, NIV)  Faith is the key to experiencing God in the fullness of His Glory in the life of the heart surrendered to Him,  for   “Everything is possible for him who believes” (Mark 9:23, NIV)
