The Spirit’s Blessing – My Daily Bread!
Our call to hear the voice of the Lord is taken from Ephesians 1:13-14, NIV, and it reads:
“And you also were included in Christ, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of His glory.”
These words of Paul’s speak of our blessed hope in Christ and the assurance of our salvation. To give our hearts confidence God mercifully gave the Holy Spirit to dwell within us as a deposit of our inheritance into the Messianic Kingdom of God. A deposit is usually only a portion of what will be offered or given, with a future expectation of more to come. This is the same for our promises in Christ; although the indwelled Holy Spirit ignites that hope in our hearts, the fullness of our salvation through Jesus Christ will not be realized until we are with God in eternity. For Saints God is our reward!
I love to read scripture which tells of the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Jesus referred to the Holy spirit as the ‘Counselor’, ‘the spirit of truth’ and the ‘gift my Father promised’. (John 14:15-17; Acts 1: 4-5, NIV) And what a gift! Aside from marking us as God’s own and serving as the guarantee of our eternal reward the Holy Spirit:
Prays with and for you – “In the same way, the spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who search our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.” (Romans 8:26-27, NIV)
Reveals the truth of Christ – Jesus said “But when He, the Spirit of truth comes He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.” (John 16: 13-16, NIV)
Counsels, Teaches and Guides Believers to truth – “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of all things I have said to you.’ (John 14: 26, NIV)
Empowers believers to have victory over the flesh – “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.” (Galatians 5: 16-17, NIV)
Convict us of sin – “When He comes He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin.” Let’s all agree that this is a blessing because acknowledging our sin leads to repentance and godly repentance leads to restored fellowship with our Father in heaven.
It is a pleasure to know that the same Spirit that hovered over the waters at the time of creation (Genesis 1: 1, NIV) is the same Spirit of God that hovers inside of us today! Saints appreciate your blessings of the Holy Spirit and rejoice in this most precious gift from God!
