God Holds the Future!

God Holds the Future – My Daily Bread!

The call to trust in God with all your heart is taken from Psalm 31: 14-15, NIV which reads:

“But I trust in You, O Lord; I say, You are my God.  My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.”

These words of David were said when he was no doubt on the run.  David, the man after God’s own heart seemed always on the run and a number of the Psalm reflect his despair in these circumstances.  But in it all, they also reflect his complete trust in the Lord.  In this passage he acknowledges that ‘his times’ are in God’s hands.  David understood that God was in control of his entire life, even to taking care of those who plotted his death here on earth.

Yes the Lord, the creator of heaven and earth concerned himself with David’s enemies and their impact on his life.  David understood that God set the boundaries as far as he was concerned.   So it was no wonder we find him often praying to God regarding his circumstances.  Unlike Saul who did not inquire of the Lord, David always took his issues and concerns directly to God.   His fervent prayers are a source of great comfort to Christians today.

Is God the first person you think about when you are in trouble?  Do you trust Him like David did, believing that your times are in His hands?  This can be one of the hardest things for Christians to grasp – God in Control.   As soon as something does not go the way we think it should, somewhere on the edges of our brains where our rational intellect resides, we start to hear the whispers of a heart teetering on the edge of doubt.  What is that rational intellect saying?  Well, for one that it is irrational to hope, trust and believe in someone we cannot see or touch.

And then there is the beauty and comfort of Christ for those who believe.  Because He knows my thoughts and loves me still, I pray fervently that He holds my heart in His hands.  For like David I know that the heart that trusts in Him will be delivered!   Has He not already demonstrated His commitment to us, by delivering us from eternal death by the ransom of His Son?  Can He not rescue from this life’s perils?  Has He not promised to be ‘my hiding place, the one who protect me from trouble and surrounds me with songs of deliverance?”  (Psalm 32:7, NIV)

Saints our God is in the business of coming to our rescue.  Lift your head and heart up to the Lord; hear your songs of deliverance, for your God is near and He is a mighty force to be reckoned with.   He will guard your fragile heart if you trust in Him, for He controls all your times, including both the beginning and the end.
