He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands!

He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands  – My Daily Bread!

Our call to know the power of the Lord is found in Isaiah 45: 6-7, NIV which reads:

“So that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me.  I am the Lord and there is no other.  I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.”

This passage of scripture reminds us that God is in total control of all aspects of His creation.  In the world today with its economic and moral crisis it is hard for some to grasp this concept.   And even in the lives of those who profess the Lord, this can be a hard lesson to understand.  But throughout the course of history the ‘finger of God’ has been made manifest so that man may know that there is none other than the Lord!

I am reminded of the time when an entire nation was made to learn this important lesson at the hand of the Lord in the form of ten plagues when God freed His treasured possession, the Nation of Israel from bondage and slavery in the land of Egypt.  Chapters 7 – 11 of the book of Exodus tells of God’s wrath poured out on the Egyptians by the use of natural disasters; how it was unmistakable that their numerous gods were useless against the Almighty Lord of heaven and earth.

My heart is drawn to the ninth plague, the one right before the plague of the firstborn where God killed the firstborn son of the Egyptians.  Regarding the ninth plague, “the Lord said to Moses, ‘stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness will spread over Egypt – darkness that can be felt.  So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness covered all Egypt for three days.  No one could see anyone else or leave his place for three days.  Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived.”  (Exodus 10: 21-23, NIV)

This story is too marvelous to even imagine!  Not only was it a turning point in the lives of the Israelites; it is very important for us today because it is a parody of the way the Lord deals with man today – God reserves darkness for those who do not acknowledge His divine authority and submit to His will and provides light to all whom He chooses, namely, those who seek Him and bear His name.   Saints, we all have a decision to make; we will either submit ourselves to the darkness of this world or to the light of the Lord!

The Word foretells that in the last days not all will seek the light of the Lord – “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”  (John 3-19-20, NIV)

Saints though the situation of this world may be disheartening, we can rejoice because Christ is the light of God’s truth to the world; His means of salvation and all are invited to “come….let us walk in the light of the Lord.”  (Isaiah 2: 5, NIV)  We can also rejoice that from the rising to the setting of the sun God is in control both now and forever!  Be not overwhelmed by the affairs of this world because He determines the extent of the darkness and sets it limits!  And finally be encouraged to seek the Lord “For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light.”  (Psalm 36: 9, NIV)
