A Hope That Will Never Perish – My Daily Bread!
Our call to treasure our grace before the Lord is taken from 1 Peter 1: 3-5, NIV which reads:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, soil or fade – kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is already to be revealed in the last time.”
Peter’s words are a cause for rejoicing for those who believe on the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus. To be born again into the spiritual inheritance that can never perish, fade or spoil, is a cause for “inexpressible and glorious joy”. (1 Peter 1: 8, NIV) For we are called into a living hope that results in eternal life! Our spiritual birth in Christ begins at the moment we accepted Him as our Lord and Savior; through faith we are shielded by the very power of God; the same power that was at work in creation and that sustains the universe!
We have a living hope because we have a Living God and a Living Savior! A hope that flows out of The Father’s great mercy and a love that gave the life of His Son so that we might be saved! “Because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.” (Hebrews 7: 24-25, NIV) Because He lives we “have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure”. (Hebrews 6: 19, NIV)
Reborn through the grace of salvation, we take hold of the Living God and a hope that springs eternal; this is our comfort in Christ, this is our song! For we have been redeemed by the Blood of the One that Lives and because He lives we can face our future with confidence!
