Rhythm in Christ!

Rhythm in Christ – My Daily Bread!

Of all my post, I have had many request to re-share this one on being effective through God’s Spirit.  Enjoy!

Our call to follow the Lord is taken from Acts 17: 28  which reads:

“For in Him we live and move and have our being.”

In this passage I am reminded of our God as a God of rhythm!  We see His pattern or signature in all the living things He has created.  No matter what the living thing is, there is emergent life, existence and death.  This timeless thread runs through all things with variation according to the species.  For who has not been impressed with the awakening of His earth in Spring time with its thousands of different patterns of life cycles each more beautiful than the next!  God has a time and pattern to all things that only He can change.   Because through Him, all things live and exist.  (Hebrews 2: 10)  This is a simple truth of our faith.

But today this post is talking about our rhythm in Christ for those who have been redeemed by the Blood.  But before we take the liberty to focus on ourselves, we need to define the word rhythm.  Rhythm is a movement or procedure with uniform or patterned recurrence that occurs in regular intervals.  It is a concept most often associated with music, for me music on a guitar!  However Saints we too each have a rhythm or pattern to how we deal with our God and it is different for each of us.   Check your fragile hearts Saints; we are moving into dangerous territory!

Some of us make Rhythm and Blues!

Put simply your rhythm in Christ is about how you live for the Lord, how you access Him and move in His power through His Holy Spirit.  How you trust in Him and respond to His calling.  How you obey His principles for right living and right loving.  How you fight and pray!  How you praise Him and how you forgive!  It is about how ‘salty’ you are for the Lord in your witness.  How you manifest God in your relationships in your family, in the fellowship of the church and in your neighborhood.  It is how we serve Him.  Saints our rhythm is the pattern of how we Christians handle the Things of God!

The next important aspect of your rhythm is about the concept of periodicity or how often you do these things.    How regularly do you handle the Things of God?  Daily, weekly, monthly, every once in a while, only when you have a need, or rarely if ever.   Like many other things in life, rhythm boils down to timing.  You cannot have rhythm without proper timing!

What does the pattern of your life say about your rhythm in Christ?  Are you consistently on the same page that God is on?   It behooves us to check how we move in Christ Saints; for we do not want to be out of tune with Our Lord, marching to our own beat.  If I know one thing it is this – God has the beat, we must keep His time!

So how do we have a rhythm that is pleasing to God, how do we keep His beat?  The answer – moving in the Spirit!   For those of us who were sold out to the popular movie series “Star Trek” as kids, do you remember what happened when the Enterprise got into trouble, what did they do – put up the shields.  Who knew what the shields even were; they snuck that one onto a naïve, very ‘untecky’ generation, who set on the edge of our seats nonetheless hoping that they got those shields up in time before the beloved Enterprise got messed up.  Those were nail-biting stressful times for some of us.

Like those shields that protected the Enterprise and enabled the crew to continue their venture to the next episode; the Holy Spirit is what protects us and allows us to maintain a rhythm in Christ that is acceptable before God.   His Spirit resides in us and is the very power of God that quickens our hearts to live in Him, to move in Him and to keep His beat!  It keeps us in balance with God at all times.

The psalmist understood the role of God’s Spirit in maintaining fellowship with God and in sustaining his joy when he asked God to “renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.”  (Psalm 51: 10-12)   Elisha also believed in the power of God’s Spirit to impact his ministry when he asked for a double portion of the spirit of Elijah, the great prophet of God.  He knew that it was by Gods Spirit that Elijah was able to be effective for the Lord; he knew it was what sustained him.  (2 Kings 2: 9)

So here is our trustworthy saying for today: Living in the Rhythm of Christ is about executing on time in the Spirit!  If we live in the Spirit we will have acceptable rhythm in Christ and live impactful lives for Him; ‘for in Him we live and move and have our being’ – perfect rhythm in motion with God!

Stay tuned up on HIS WORD!
