Walking in Step With the Lord!

Walking in Step With the Lord – My Daily Bread!

Our reflection today is found in the words of Moses’ exhortation to the nations of Israel about holding to the Living God as their standard!   In Deuteronomy 30: 19-20, NIV, Moses says:

“This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him.  For the Lord is your life, and He will give you many years in the land He swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

These words echo down through the years to our hearts today; for God places before us the same choices – life or death, blessing and curses!   His requirements are still the same as well:  ‘to love the Lord your God, listen to His voice and hold fast to Him’.  To follow the Lord is to choose life!

And the blessings of holding onto the Lord are still the same:  ‘that you may live and that the Lord will give you many years in the land He swore to give to your fathers’.   Now our blessings today is not a physical land on this earth like the Israelites’; but we are eagerly looking to enter God’s presence for all eternity and that starts here on earth the moment we accept Christ into our lives!

God is your life and your banner for He “himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”  (Deuteronomy 31: 8, NIV)   A banner is a piece of cloth attached to a staff and used as a standard or symbol of principals of a ruler or king.   The expression Jehovah Nissi translates, Jehovah is my Banner!   Saints, God is our Standard, He goes before us, He sets the pace and graciously covers us with His grace!
