God’s Word as The Apple of Our Eye!

God’s Word as The Apple of Our Eye – My Daily Bread!

Our call to keep God’s commandments is taken from Proverbs 7: 1-3, NIV, which tells us:

‘’My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.  Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.  Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart”.

Now of course Sister Girls this applies to us too.  What God desires more than anything is that we follow Him and live in His will with all of our heart, mind and soul.

Words like guard and bind remind us of captivity – the state of being imprisoned, confined or enslaved; all words that have negative connotations.  However, God is not concerned with what is politically correct in the same sense as this world is concerned.  For He made us and is acutely aware that what controls the heart controls the man/woman.  God knows that a heart filled with His Word as its most prized treasure will lead to obedience.  This verse is not talking about head knowledge, for lots of people can quote scripture.  This verse is talking about God’s Word as the apple of our eye; hidden so deep that “I might not sin against thee”.   This passage is talking about knowing God to OBEY God!

How do you know God?  Do you know Him to obey Him?  Or is He one of your casual friends you share bits and pieces of your life with, when you have the time; picking and choosing His Word to follow as it suites your different occasions, circumstances?  Is your mind, heart and soul captive by God’s teachings and His Word?  Do you take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ?  (2 Corinthians 10:5, NIV)  Saints we would all do well to occasionally examine what is written in our hearts.  Taking an inventory is quite simple – just reflect on the last week and check your obedience!
