Something to Boast About!

Something to Boast About!

Our call to know the Lord is taken from Jeremiah 9: 23-24, NIV, which reads:

“Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows Me, that I am Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight declares the Lord”.

Lots of people admire others and themselves for the things mentioned in the passage above, wisdom, riches and physical prowess or strength.  Is it surprising that these are not what delight the Lord?  For one thing these attributes focus attention on self and not on God.   They also seek to elevate self over others.  But here God gives us the one thing that makes His heart glad – that we know Him, that He is Lord and that we understand Him.  This can only be achieved through developing a personal relationship with the Lord.   Psalm 27:4. NKJV, says:  “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”  Saints, God is the key to our happiness and our joy, He is the ultimate end game!

In this same passage God also gives us some other keys to success by sharing with us some admiring qualities of His that we should emulate – kindness, justice and righteousness.  To demonstrate these qualities in our lives takes the focus off of self and shifts it to the only one worthy of being honored – The Lord our King!  For He alone deserves the glory!  Will you boast in the Lord?  Will you be His delight?
