The Comfort of God That Blesses Others – My Daily Bread!
Our peace in Christ is taken from 1 Corinthians 1: 3-5, NIV, which reads:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows”.
These words of the apostle Paul have comforted Christian’s hearts for centuries, being especially dear to those undergoing trials in their lives.
Many of us think that when God gives His comfort, our troubles should go away. However, if this was true then no one would come to the Father out of love, many would come out of having their pain or suffering relieved. This passage focuses on two aspects of God in His role as the ‘Father of compassion and the God of all comfort’; the first being that God is the one who comforts us in ALL our troubles and secondly, the purpose is not only for us to be blessed by God, but that we may pass the blessing of comfort to others!
God’s comfort to us is many things: receiving strength, receiving encouragement or receiving the courage to deal with our troubles another day. God’s comfort is about sustaining hope when our circumstances appear hopeless. God’s comfort is about receiving cheer that makes the heart smile when it feels like breaking. God’s comfort is about receiving His peace that calms and soothes our aching soul and reassures us that He is near. Likewise, the comfort we give others should be many things –in accordance with what the Lord has given you.
Know that all that God gives or allows in your life is for your good; (Romans 8:28, NIV) and that “this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead… On Him we have set our hope that He will continue to deliver us”. (1 Corinthians 1: 9-10, NIV) So if you are feeling overwhelmed, seek the blessing of God’s comfort and rejoice! And most importantly, let your comfort from God overflow as you bless others with the comfort that He has so graciously given unto you.
Prayer: Father, thank you for being the God of all hope, thank you for meeting all of my needs according to your plan for me. I come to you looking for the comfort you so freely give; my heart needs you right now. Fill me that I see nothing else but you and your will for me. Strengthen me Father according to your loving kindness that I might bless someone else with your comfort, your peace, your hope, your love and your cheer. In Christ Jesus, Amen.
