A Faith that Moves Mountains – My Daily Bread!
Our reflection on faith is taken from Mark 11:22-24, here we find Jesus explaining the power of faith to his disciples, He said
“Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, go throw yourself into the sea and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.”
Jesus’ point here is that with faith we can accomplish extraordinary things for God, but we must believe! That through faith we experience God in ways that will change our lives forever! Note what Jesus said about faith and doubt in the story taken from Mark 9:14-29:
Once when Jesus’ disciples could not heal a demon possessed boy, his father brought him to Jesus. During the course of their conversation the father asked Jesus “If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us”. Jesus challenged his faith by responding “If you can? Everything is possible for him who believes.” (Mark 9:23) Now the boy’s father had some faith, because he knew to come to Jesus when his disciples could not cast out the demon; yet it was not complete. It was not until he was in the presence of the Christ that he recognized that his faith was lacking.
Then he exclaimed “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Jesus’ “If you can” question made it clear that there was so room for doubt! The doubt had to be resolved and cleared away before He was miraculous in their lives! This is the same for us today. The book of James when talking about making request of God cautions: “when he asks he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord.” (James 1:6)
Do you struggle believing on God for something right now in your life? Is your faith sufficient to navigate you around the ‘mountains’ in your life? Do not be discouraged for God‘s solution for our unbelief today is still prayer for God to increase our faithfulness to him! For “it is by faith you stand firm”. (2 Corinthians 1:24) We too must enter into the presence of God to truly understand the depths of our faith. He lives in His Word; and if we seek Him there He will reveal himself to us and be miraculous in our lives. Outside of His presence and on the outside we look pretty good to ourselves; but remember – only God can make your faith complete! So when you pray Saints, pray believing and trust in God!
Prayer: Lord, I praise you for your faithfulness; morning by morning your new mercies I see. Show me your grace today; cover my unbelief and increase my faithfulness to you and all you have called me to be. I commit my heart and spirit into your hands, for I know you are faithful. Amen
