Comforting Grace!

Comforting Grace – My Daily Bread!

Our call to trust mightily in the Lord is taken from Psalm 33: 20-22 which reads:

“We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.  In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.  May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.”

These words of encouragement can capture our hearts the same way they did Abraham, the servant of the Lord as he trembled in fear that neighboring Kings might seek his life after he had defeated them while rescuing his nephew Lot.  God spoke these very same words to Abram in Genesis 15: 1 when He said:  “Do not be afraid Abram; I am your shield, your very great reward.”

Saints have you had a time when God shielded you and kept you safe from harm?  What a comfort to know that He watches over us and we can trust in Him because His unfailing love rest upon us even in our darkest hour.  In the olden times a shied in battle was used to cover the most vulnerable parts of the body, often the chest to protect the heart or the head and was able to be moved to where it was needed the most.  Like that shield God covers us when we are at our most vulnerable places and because His Holy Spirit can move without limit, His covering is complete.  We do not have to worry or be afraid!

And then let your heart rejoice for your God is near!  He is our comfort and our peace and our very great reward!
