No Ordinary Love – My Daily Bread!
The courage to treasure God’s love deep within our heart is taken from Ephesians 3: 16-19 which reads:
“I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God”.
This is one of the most beautiful pictures of Christ‘s love for the church and for every soul redeemed through His blood. We cannot read it without pausing over the description – a love that is so wide, a love that is so long, a love that is so high and a love that is so deep – that it surpasses knowledge! I wondered what could surpassing knowledge even mean. Simply this it surpasses all that has ever been known or discovered and all that will ever be known or still to be discovered in the realm of human thinking. This is surely no ordinary love! It is a unique love! So extraordinary that we need the power of God to even began to grasp its meaning.
Just think about it. A love so high that it reaches to our highest of height of celebration and rejoicing. A love so deep it comforts us even in our darkest hour, when we are at our lowest, and yes even unto death. A love so wide that it holds not our sin against us, but flings it as far from God as the east is from the west. A love so long that it goes the distance of our entire human experience and then stretches beyond our mortality into eternity with God.
And the rarest treasure of this love – it fills us to the measure of all the fullness of God! Through God’s love and the power at work in us through the Holy Spirit we are made complete in Christ. With the love of God in our hearts we can through faith die to our selves daily and yet live the abundant life – with God filling every aspect of our existence! How treasured we are of God for this privilege and honor to be loved by Him! Great is our God, rejoice all you saints who belong to Him for “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love” (1 John 1:13)
Prayer: Father, I rejoice and my heart sings of your praises for this great love that you have poured out on me. I kneel before you with thanksgiving in knowing that I can never out pace this love, I can never escape it. Strengthen my faith with the power of your Holy Spirit that I might know the riches of your glory and through your love for me know the fullness of you. That I might bring honor to your name and that someone might see and believe. In Christ I pray, Amen.
