Waiting on The One Who Sees Me!

Waiting on The One Who Sees Me – My Daily Bread!

Today our comfort to trust in the Lord is taken from Romans 8:28, NIV which reads:

“And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose”.

In a few instances there are times when scripture records how God directly intervened in the life of women.   I delight in reading those passages!  Our Word today speaks of the extraordinary case of Sari and Hagar, and how God showed up and fixed a difficult situation (Genesis Chapter 16).

Although thousands of years old, this story has serious contemporary themes – mainly two women sharing one man.  Now ladies if anyone has had the misfortune of trying to share a man we know this is not a workable situation under any circumstance.  Well no surprise that it does not work now and it did not work then.  Main reason being – it certainly was not God’s plan, and in this particular case it was a plan that three individuals cooked up when they decided not to wait and see how God was going to fulfill the promises of a Son to Abram and Sari (who were both about 100 years old!)

They took their eyes off of what God had told them He was going to do and began to focus on what they were going to do about what God told them.

Now all three of them made serious mistakes, Sari took matters into her own hands and gave Hagar to her husband; Abraham went along with it and when things got crazy between the two women he did nothing to resolve the matter and Hagar began to despise Sari and then fled.

What a mess!  Not to unlike the messes we create in our own lives when we take our eyes off of God.  But in it all God demonstrated His ability to work in all things for the good of those who love Him!   His plan was not thwarted, Sari and Abram still received the son God had promised and God in His mercy did something extraordinary for Hagar when He intervened directly in the situation on her behalf and solved Hagar’s problem even though Abram did not.

But the key message today is focused on Hagar (whose name means stranger, one who fears), who certainly appeared to be the least of the three players in terms of importance.  She was a slave, a handmaiden of Sari who was from the land of Egypt who was given to someone else’s husband so she could get pregnant and conceive a child for another women.

At this point in the story the Angel of the Lord went and found Hagar near a spring in the desert after she had run away from the situation, in a nutshell he asked her where was she going, told her to go back home, instructed her to get back to work in her Master’s house, and most importantly that the Lord of Host was aware of her misery and that He was already doing something about it (she was to bear a child who would receive a blessing from God!)

What is so remarkable is her response.  She is one of the few women who are actually quoted in the Bible, it says: “She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the Lord who sees me” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me” (Genesis 16:13-14, NIV).

We all can take comfort from knowing that God, the Lord of Host directly intervened in her life and revealed himself to her and told her what to do, so much so that she could say that “I have now seen the One who sees me”.

Our God sees us today, He knows everything that is going on with us, nothing is hidden, not even the secrets of our hearts!   Sometimes we may feel like Hagar, of little importance in what is going on around us, at home, at work, in the church.  Or perhaps others actions towards us make us feel that way, but God sees us differently.

After all He has saved our lives and we have been “raised with Christ and your life is now hidden with Christ in God”.  (Colossians 3: 3, NIV)  What does this mean?  - that we are concealed and safe!  Saints this is not only a future hope, but also a reality in our lives right now!  Certainly, God would not extend such an offer for someone He did not care about!

In some cases when we have a burden and are waiting on God,  He may have already ”asked US where are WE going, told US to go back home (HIS HOLY HOUSE OF PRAYER), instructed US to get back to work in OUR Master’s house (USING THE GIFTS HE HAS GIVEN US FOR CHRIST’S MINISTRY, THE PART HE HAS TOLD US TO DO), and most importantly that HE is aware of OUR situation and that HE is already doing something about it, even if we do not know what it is”.  KNOW THIS: GOD IS ALWAYS UP TO SOMETHING!

How Great is Our God, that He is actively  seeking our best interest at all times, even in our trials which gives us the confidence to “”know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose”.

Right now, take a minute and pray and give to God anything that may be causing you a heavy heart.  Ask him for His perspective on the matter and listen for his voice.  Ask him to reveal Himself and His plan for your life.

In the meantime and there will be some “mean times” ask Him to reveal His renewed mercies to you daily and look for them as you wait on the Lord!  Treasure them close in your “Hidden Heart” that cannot be untangled from Christ.  You will be amazed at what He will open your eyes to see!  And most importantly, never take your eyes off of God!   Let Him work it ALL out!  Be able to say: “I have now seen the One who sees me”.
