The Peace of Christ – My Daily Bread!
Our comfort in Christ is taken from Micah 5: 2, 4-5, NIV, it reads
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, through you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, who origins are from of old, from ancient times. He will stand and shepherd His flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord His God. And they will live securely, for then His greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And He will be their peace.”
This timeless passage from Old Testament Scripture heralds the coming of Christ! What comfort we can draw that the preeminent deity of Christ (He was God before His birth on earth), His first coming and His millennial reign as Lord of Lord and King of Kings ( second coming) is contained in this awesome message of hope!
It also foretold of His birthplace, Bethlehem, that He would be from the tribe of Judah, that He existed prior to His physical birth on earth, that He would shepherd God’s people, that He would be their security and blessing, that His rule would extend throughout the earth and most important – that He would be our peace!
It is no wonder that Jesus also spoke of the comfort of His peace in John 14: 27, NIV as He began his journey to Calvary, He said: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” What encouragement from the King!
As we await the coming of our Lord and Savior, let us rejoice in our blessed hope, as we look eagerly to the day our prayers are answered: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6: 9-10, NIV)
