Mercies Anew Each Day – My Daily Bread!

One of the greatest scriptures regarding God’s faithfulness is found in Lamentations 3:22-26: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, the Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.  The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”  The prophet Jeremiah wrote this passage after the destruction of Jerusalem, a time for extreme suffering for the nation of Israel.  Yet in the midst of this tragedy, he was able to see God’s mercies each day!

When you are facing a seemingly insurmountable life event, there is comfort in this passage because it points us to key truths of God:

Because of God’s love we can weather any trial.

His mercies toward us never fail; but are new each day.

Great is his faithfulness to us.

God is our reward; He is good to those who seek him.

Because of God’s faithfulness, we can wait patiently for his deliverance.

What beautiful truths of God!  They let us know that God is busy during our trails!  He promises to supply the love, new mercies, great faithfulness, our blessings and deliverance!  Now there are a few things that we are encouraged to do – seek him and wait on His plan. Notice that worrying is not one of the things listed, but it is the thing we most often do throughout our trials.

Jesus gave the greatest encouragement regarding worrying when he said “Therefore I tell you do not worry about your life…Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?  (Luke 12:22-26) “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)  Isaiah gives the reason for waiting – “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion…Blessed are all who wait for Him!” (Is 30:18)

If you are worrying about anything today, seek God, hope in Him, and wait on him!
